Communion Song

Hey friends and songwriters, Thanks for checking out the new communion song! My friend Cam was sharing a passage of scripture with our missionary community group a few weeks before Christmas. Specifically Matthew 26:26-30. It had us all discussing the depth of communion and why Jesus instituted it for us to remember often. About an hour later I grabbed Cam’s guitar and wrote most of this song! Sometimes it goes down like that! As always worshippers, songwriters, and Jesus lovers feel free to start a discussion in the comments below on the lyrics, songwriting process, thoughts on the scripture etc… Here are the lyrics and the title and picture will take you to the live song if you desire to watch or use in some way. Lyrics

This world still brings trouble, still peace is what you bring. You have gone to prepare a place for us that where you are we could also be.

I eat of the brokenness of my savior and drink the suffering that’s in my Lord. Daily walk in His communion Until we’re together forevermore.

I am the vine and you are the branches so in you I will abide. I in you and you in the Father, joined together for all of time.

Take and eat, remember me. With this cup you’ll find your peace

Shine-Isaiah 60

Hey Brothers & Sisters & Songwriters,

This song has been brewing in my early morning hours with the Lord for a while. It began late into the Covid years as I was sad one morning and confessing to the Lord my fears. I immediately felt a peace from the Father as the first line suggests, that His mercy is new every morning! I was reminded of Isaiah 60 and so for weeks I sat on the passage just coming back to this first verse and chorus. As I returned to some journals I had written in private with the Lord I came across one where we were dialoguing about ‘time’. I realized how much that word can control our lives, and that is how the 2nd verse was written.

Lyrics

The night has held back the light, but I’m not afraid (be not afraid). Your mercy will come with new day.

And Shine, shine with new light, shine with new life, and arise, arise with new life

Time, the ongoing fight. I’m not delayed. (be not dismayed) There is grace sufficient for today.

And His glory over us rises like the dawn lighting up the sky. And every nation comes drawn to the brilliance of His eyes.

God Of The Ages

Hey Worshipers & Songwriters,

Now here is a song I am excited about! I love corporate accessible songs. My family and I have friends in the neighboring country of Malawi who we visit often. They are fresh air for us in a challenging missionary life. Worshiping God together is a common event between us and so is songwriting. I was enjoying time with them and grabbed my friend’s guitar and started playing this chord progression. The Holy Spirit pointed me to Acts chapter 2 and I began to sing this chorus. Then I opened up the scripture and began reading the event that happened in the upper room. As the verse came together the Holy Spirit reminded me of Jesus’ words as He departed to be with the Father in Acts 1:6-9 and the bridge rolled out. Within a few hours our families decided to sit down together and try this one out! It’s now a favorite!

Lyrics

Come Holy Wind with tongues of fire set us ablaze. Bring sounds of Heaven until all nations say,

Praise Him, this God who sent His son to save us and with raised hands sing praises to the God of the ages.

And when Your power comes down on each one of us, from Jerusalem’s town to Samaria’s coast, from Judea’s Dead Sea to the ends of the earth they will know, when we,

Peace Be Still

Hey friends,

2023 was a year of rains and flooding like we hadn’t seen in Mozambique in decades. One night as I was up praying for the local villagers who were losing crops and houses I began to confess my own fears. As I paced with my guitar and prayed this song came out. A few verses are scriptures from the gospels of other believers facing their fears with Jesus. This one came out over the course of that night and morning.

Lyrics

You stretched your hand over the water and stood with strength inside our boat. Words of life rolled off your tongue as you said, ‘peace be still and know’

Know that you are God, Know that you are King, Knowing you are ruler of the universe and everything

Your hand stretched out to stop the weeping. Death will not steal this families hope. She’s not dead, just asleep, do not fear, believe in me. Have peace be still and know.

You stretched your hand to greet us. We sat in fear behind locked doors. Then showing all your hands and side you said, ‘Peace be still’

Glory-John 1

Hey Brothers & Sisters & Songwriters,

It is called ‘Glory’. You can find its content in verses 1-14 in the book of John. About two years before my family and I headed off to Africa God had me eating every day from this chapter of scripture. It lasted for almost a year and suprising enough I never wrote a song from it! Recently a pastor from another country asked me if I could write one from this passage and this was the result. Enjoy and share!

Lyrics

He was there in the beginning, and will be standing in the end. When his light shines in the darkness. No evil thing can come against.

Glory, we’ve seen your glory. The word made flesh and bone. Glory, we’ve seen your glory. Dwell here and make us home.

The word was there in the beginning, and will be spoken in the end. The law made clear the path from death to life. But truth and grace through Jesus Christ.

In him was life. That life was the light of all mankind.

Boston In The Fall

Hey Worshipers & Songwriters,

One of the extremely hard things we go through as missionaries is having to leave friends often. On our way home from our last home assignment we found ourselves in the Boston airport where I wrote this Song while thinking of friends! The chorus was spurred by something my dear friend Billy said a few weeks earlier to me on a road trip we took. Super raw with airport terminal noise probably.

Lyrics

Another layover, Boston Airport in the fall, Memories turn into thoughts while writing another song. It’s about how when you need it most how a friend is sure to call.

And whether flying or driving or singing and crying through it all

About to board this plane and take of in the air. Need to finish this tune there is little time to spare. Who knows when next we’ll meet and how can we know where?

And whether flying or driving, singing and crying I’ll be there.

I’m done with my layover looking down on Walden’s Pond. Time brings the season’s change like trees of Boston’s fall. I say a prayer for you and know it won’t be long.

until we are flying or driving, singing and crying through it all

If The Flowers Had A Voice

Hey friends and Psalmists! I have a unique and different one for you. This one is written from the words of Jesus in Matthew chapter 6. The spin is a bit more of a feel from the book of Psalms. My intent was to write it in the way you might read a Psalm- or a question format of pondering. The lyrics are below and I am curious to hear your comments on the way this one came out. Is the writing to old and historical to be sung in a modern context?

Lyrics

If the flowers had a voice. What could they possibly say, that would be a stronger word than their beauty on display? If the mountains had a choice to stand up or walk away, is their majesty made dim just because they stay? No way!

Why should I worry? You take away my fears. I won’t be anxious, it won’t add hours for me here. When I seek you I find your righteousness. I’m lacking in nothing, and living a life that’s truly blessed.

If I had the finest clothes and could buy the grandest things, would it help the way I love or change the way I see? Unlikely!

My Beloved

Hey Brothers & Sisters & Lovers of The Savior!

‘My Beloved’ is one of my favorite songs in my entire music and songwriting history with my King.

For many years my family and I have sought to hear our identity in the Lord. My wife and I have spent long hours teaching our children to hear His voice and what He calls them. It is not always an easy journey! It can and often does include walking through the valley of the shadow of death.

In the end we always hear His faithful voice fill our hearts with His undying pleasure over us.

That is what this song was about. After a long silent season with My Father He whispered these lyrics into my Spirit and I wrote and wrote these words. Some were from the book Song of Songs, and some were my own.

It is a blend of me proclaiming His truth and Him whispering His truth to me. I was also reading and listening with my family to many of Jamie Winship’s teachings on Identity in Christ during this time. That definately influenced and brought inspiration to this song.

Thanks for listening, and as always here are the lyrics so you can walk through them, pray, ponder, and begin a conversation with us if you want.

Lyrics

My beloved says to me come and see. My beloved says to me sit at my feet. My Beloved says to me you will find your peace here with me.

Come and find the great exchange as the fears begin to fall. The words of this world hold no power at all. As you hear the name I’ve called you in the night begin to shine. I’m yours, forever you are mine. I’m yours, and my beloved you are mine.

My beloved says to me seek and you’ll find. My beloved says to me drink of my wine. My beloved says to me taste love divine. You are mine.

Come and feel the great exchange as the tears begin to fall. And the words of this world find no power at all. As you hear the name I’ve called you from the depths begin to shine. I’m yours, forever you are mine. I’m yours, my beloved you are mine.

I’ve set a seal upon my heart. This promise that the grave can’t rob. No fire on earth could quench this love. I’ve set a seal upon my heart.

And now you know the great exchange and how all the fears can fall, when the words of this world have no power at all. And the name I’ve called it shines and breaks through the darkest night. I’m yours, forever you are mine. I’m yours and my beloved you are mine.

Final Note

Hey Songwriters,

Let’s start with the ‘Final Note’ lyrics today!

Lyrics

Let the birds sing, let the flowers bring a fragrant offering to you. If the skies ring when the rivers bring a mighty chorus to you. Let them wait for me.

Let my heart sing so much higher, so much higher. May my words be a loving a choir and your desire. All creation with the rocks fall silent until my final note reaches to you.

Let the stars shine in the night sky until they are burning brightly for you. Heaven’s galaxies beyond what we can see will bring their glory to you, just let it start with me.

_____________________

You can hear the joy and hope in this hook for sure. We were in Malawi at another YWAM base and i grabbed my guitar for hours and just walked around with that acoustic hook knowing God had something that was connected to joy and hope that needded to ring out.

I kept singing that lyric, ‘Let my heart sing so much hgher…’ over and over. The next morning I was sitting in the little prayer room right on those steps where I recorded it and remembered Jesus’ words that if all the people stopped worshiping even the rocks and creation would start to sing.

From there it was easy and the words just flowed out. The motivation was I so desire to worship you God and I may not have much, but let all creation wait until my final note is sung. I don’t want to be found silent when it comes to giving you praise.

No need to change any chords as the melody was already carrying it along.
